Why I live in Utah

Is it just me or does driving suck right now?? For anyone living in Utah, and especially in Ogden, I think it is safe to say that snow removal has defiantly seen better days. It makes me wonder if this is one of the state functions that got cut when the budget lost about a billion dollars. Honestly speaking though, I can say that if it really is the fallout of a tough economy, then that is that. We will have to do without. At least we aren’t borrowing money from the feds (which means that the feds are borrowing money from some foreign source and putting us further down the crap chute….thank you bailout) All in all, I guess we are just going to have to be a little more careful when we drive.

As for myself and the rest of the family, we are just trying to stay warm. Luckily, we have our wood burning stove and a good supply of firewood to keep us thawed. Otherwise I would hate to know what the heating bill would be like for our house. (it is a good house, but a bit drafty) Besides that I am just trying to figure out what to do with myself for the rest of the break before spring semester starts. Something tells me whatever I end up doing it probably won’t be the most productive. Oh, well……later.

Christmas

Alright…post number one.

It is Christmas, time to keep in contact with everyone and catch up on your friends lives. For Elisa and I things are going well, and this year has been one to remember. First off, the single most important thing that occurred this year was the birth of our son Joshua. He was born on the fourth of February and life has been different since…in the best way…and Elisa and I have never been happier…or busier. He is ten months old now and growing like a weed. The last time he was at the doctors, he was nine-months-old and the average height of an eighteen-month-old. It’s cool though. I can tell you from experience that the best people are tall.

Shortly after Josh was born I took the MCAT, which for those of you that don’t know is the big admission test that medical schools use to judge whether or not you are competent enough to go to their school. I applied after that and have been accepted to two schools so far. But as it stands now, I will be attending West Virginia School of Medicine in…wait for it……West Virginia. In case you were wondering, West Virginia is just west of the state of Virginia (geographically speaking) and also happens to be about two thousand miles east of anywhere I’ve lived in the U. S. It should be an experience. I can say though, when I interviewed out there, that it might also be one of the most beautiful places in the U.S. I will graduate in the spring with a bachelors in Microbiology, minors in Chemistry and Latin American Studies, and a whole lot more respect for higher education. It has been rough, but I am sure that I will look back in a couple of years and consider it the ‘easy time’ I had as an undergraduate.

Elisa has been well. She is just as excited to graduate and go to med school as I am. I mentioned before that we were busier than we had been before and that is especially true for Elisa. She still works at the pharmacy and now also assumes the role of favorite parent…which is apparently the pay-off for giving birth, and honestly I am cool with that (have you seen a birth??) Josh loves his momma and I can say that he couldn’t have a better one. Elisa was born to be a mom.

Besides that things have been pretty much the same as they have been for the last couple of years… healthy and happy. We have been really blessed and owe a great deal to the Lord. He has defiantly been busy looking out for us and the rest of our county this year. I hope we deserve it. Merry Christmas.
